The Wuhan virus, also known as Novel Coronavirus, has become a worldwide problem. In Singapore, the number of infected people is rising. You can never be too prepared to protect yourself by avoiding places with a history of having Wuhan virus infection in Singapore and maintain good personal hygiene. With the DORSCON code increased to orange colour and Wuhan virus danger level has been raised, what is going to happen?
Singapore Increased the Level of DORSCON
Singapore uses DORSCON as a guideline to handle any virus, Wuhan virus included. There are different colour codes such as green, yellow, orange and red with green as the lowest threat and red as the highest risk. The guideline also tells what action need to be taken to contain and control the spread of the disease.
Reported by channelnewsasia.com, DORSCON with ORANGE colour means that the virus is considered to be a major threat and can spread easily from human to human, but the spread is very minimal. According to the Ministry of Health in Singapore, this is not the first time the orange code has been declared as the same action was taken when H1N1 Influenza in 2009 and SARS in 2003.
Effect of Increasing the DORSCON to Orange
Among the protocols that come along with this change of DORSCON level include schools increasing their protection measures such as conducting temperature screening for all their students and withholding unnecessary gathering and events or inter school events.
Staffs are required to check their temperature at least 2 times daily and keep a lookout of symptoms such as cough and runny nose. Anyone with a fever is requested to see a doctor and leave the office.
3 New Novel Coronavirus Case Found in Singapore
The raised level of DORSCON to orange is affected by the discovery of 3 new cases that do not have any travel history to China over the past 14 days. The government needed to find where these patients got infected and go through contact tracing.
Upon investigation, the three infected people had the same destination where they might have contacted the disease, which is at Life Church. This church was visited by a Wuhan citizen.
You may consider to avoid places where tourists from China would often visit in Singapore such as Orchard Road, Yong Thai Hang, Diamond Industries, Meeting You Restaurant, Royal Dragon Restaurant, T Galleria by DF5 and D’Resort. The additional place to avoid also include Lie Church. Stay safe everyone and let’s do our part to fight the virus!
