Singapore’s annual party will be held again in Padang next year to commemorate the two centuries of Singapore’s founding. This was announced by Defense Minister, Ng Eng Hen on Friday, August 17, 2018.
He said that the march next year would be something special, because it would reflect the extent of Singapore 200 years after Stamford Raffles landed in Singapore in 1819.
The recreation field near City Hall will be chosen for the 2019 National Day Parade as the marking site has witnessed so many important events in Singapore’s history.
Dr Ng revealed the place in a speech at an event at Gardens by the Bay to thank the organization, sponsor and organizing committee for the National Day Parade (NDP) this year, which was held at the Marina Bay floating platform last week, August 9, 2018.
Padang was the first post-independence NDP site in 1966. It also witnessed the 1959 self-government declaration and unity with Malaysia in 1963.
In his speech, Dr Ng paid tribute to 15,000 people from SAF, Home Team, and the public and private sectors that made this year’s NDP a success. (NDP 18) succeeded because it has expressed what Singapore is and what it is like to be Singapore, “he said. “This year’s NDP is an extraordinary storytelling exercise, and it reflects the Singapore story through the lives of ordinary Singaporeans by taking extraordinary actions.”
