Automatic Disinfection at HDB buildings and Changi Airport
Since February 2020, there has been increasing number of public places that provide sanitizers and disinfectant, including places like Changi Airport and HDB. Now, there is an extra layer that is known as SDST to protect people against virus, bacteria and fungus. SDST is installed on surfaces such as lift buttons, door handles, touch screen and trolley handle.
Reported by channelnewsasia.com, about 650 liter of disinfectant layers have been used to cover 1.5 million lift buttons. This layer also has a needle-like structure that ruptures the outer membrane of viruses, bacteria and fungi, thereby reducing their ability to infect.
The proprietary bonding agents in the coating also allow it to adhere tightly to surfaces at a molecular level, so that even with repeated scrubbing and cleaning, the coating does not leach and remains effective for as long as three months.
Dr Teo Ho Pin, coordinating chairman of PAP Town Councils said “The use of this new protective self-disinfecting coating on our lift buttons will further reduce bacteria and virus transmission. However, hard object such as keys can scrape the coating off, so we ask for the cooperation of the public to not press the lift buttons with such objects like keys”
