Singapore is known for its effective and efficient public transportation that can take commuters anywhere in Singapore comfortably. Families and solo travellers both can freely roam around the country with the available transportation. After waiting for 6 years, 3 MRT stations in Singapore are finally opened, including one that can take you to Malaysia!
First Started the Project in 2014 and Was Postponed
The construction was first started in 2014. What a wait it was, especially for the citizens who live nearby the construction area! Now, you can find Woodlands North, Woodlands and Woodlands South station in Singapore.
Interestingly, Woodlands North station is matched with RTS Link. A delay due to clearance issue took place in 2018 as the cost of this project reached Rp.1,3 million.
Connecting Singapore with Johor Bahru
On 11 January 2020, the new MRT line in Singapore was officially opened. Woodlands North MRT Station was meant to connect Rapid Transit System (RTS) with the Singapore – Johor Bahru border. All the new stations will be accessible by the public from 31 January 2020 onwards.
The Minister of Relation, Khaw Boon Wan, declared that the MRT station will be located beside RTS link. The measurement and space of the station is also adjusted to the rush hours between Singapore and Johor Bahru.
Singapore’s 6th MRT Line
This new MRT line will cover more than 43km and will have 32 stations. All of the stations will be opened in 2024. The new line will be the longest line that will cover areas such as Thomson, Toa Payoh, Parada Laut and Bedok to Central Business District.
The trains will be operating in 10 minutes frequency and 15 minutes for stations other than Woodlands North. Woodlands North station will have a direct route to Republic Polytechnic. The exit will be indoor so commuters will not have to face any unpredictable weather problem.
