Shopping, one of the things people are looking for when they come to Singapore. Not only are the entertainment venues beautiful and modern, Singapore also attracts tourists from shopping centers. To increase the number of tourists, the Singapore government issued a tax refund policy when shopping in Singapore for tourists ..
If you shop more than SGD100, you can claim a 7% refund for Goods and Service Tax (GST) or commonly known as Value Added Tax (VAT). To find out which shop you are shopping has a tax return policy, look for the words “Tax Free” in the store or you can ask the shop staff directly.
When you shop, don’t forget to request a GST refund receipt and purchase receipt on the store staff. So, you get 2 receipts, namely the purchase receipt and refund receipt . Your shopping items must be at least SGD100 in one shop so that they can be refunded .
You must arrive early at least 1 hour before departure to take care of the tax return. Then, you look for the GST refund counter and you can make a tax return on the eTRS machine self-service. Fill in the data and follow the instructions, after that the receipt will come out stating your tax return approves or not. If approved , you can go directly to the airport. If not, you can contact the local staff and your receipt will be reviewed manually.
After that, you can check in and take the money at the GST refund counter at the airport after passing the immigration process. So, you have to go to two GST tax refund counters, which are outside before checking in and inside after checking in to collect the money.
Of course, to be able to get a return, there are terms and procedures that must be met and followed. One of them, buyers of goods and services must be foreign nationals (foreigners), not Singaporeans or permanent residents of Singapore.
